Initially a group was formed in São Paulo in the 60’s, it had several different formations and names (Wooden Faces, Six Sided Rockers, O Konjunto, O'Seis) until it is consolidation as a trio, Sérgio Dias, Arnaldo Baptista e Rita Lee. They performed as Os Mutantes, at 1966, in a television show.

Next year, they maded second place at the Record TV festival, performing with Gilberto Gil’s Domingo no Parque’.

In 1968, they’ve recorded the classic LP called ‘Tropicália ou Panis et Circencis’ with Gil, Caetano Veloso, Tom Zé e Nara Leão.

At the same year, they launched their first LP, with the hits ‘Bat Macumba’ (Gilberto Gil), ‘Panis et Circencis’ and ‘A Minha Menina’ (Jorge Ben).

Os Mutantes were recognized as the most musically creative group with an attitude of debauchery and irreverence. They have played in France at 1969 and launched their second album. They participated in other festivals, performing with Caetano Veloso at 1968 in ‘É Proibido Proibir’ and performing solo with ‘Dom Quixote’ and ‘2001’, and at 1970 with ‘Ando Meio Desligado’.

The historic show ‘Planeta dos Mutantes’, held in 1969 at the Casa Grande Theatre, in Rio de Janeiro, have established the group on the innovative rock scene of brazilian music.

In 1972, they have launched ‘Mutantes e Seus Cometas no País dos Baurets’, album with one of their greatest hits, ‘Balada do Louco’..

Os Mutantes turned into history. They’re quoted as definition of the word ‘mutantes’ in the Encyclopedia Delta La Rousse. They have received the Medal Padre Anchieta, granted by the City Hall of São Paulo.

In 2006, the group is established worldwide, after a concert at the Barbican Theatre, in London.

After this show, Os Mutantes have made an USA tour, in places of greater prestige of the rock history, Webster Hall - NY..City, Hollywood Bowl - LA, the Fillmore - San Francisco, Seattle, The Pitchfork Festival - Chicago and Miami, where they’ve received the prize of best concert of 2006.

In 2007, Os Mutantes played for the first time in Brazil after 30 years, and had an unforgettable debut in the city’s birthday, in front of the Museum of Ipiranga, with an audience of 100.000 people of all ages.

After several concerts in Brazil, the group did their first international tour, USA and Europe, with concerts in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Lincoln Center. All concerts were sold out. Os Mutantes have received the bets reviews, including the cover of NY Times, where Sergio Dias has been cited as Guitar Hero and compared with Eric Clapton and Santana.

After USA, Mutantes went to Europe with concerts in Portugal, Spain (Benicassim Festival), Milan, London, Dublin, Liverpool, Glascow.

After 2007 July, they came into recess and began work on composition of new songs with tropicalia’s mate Tom Zé.

Os Mutantes are recording its new CD with fresh material and preparing for a new international tour.
